Regular price £15.00

Date: Wednesday 24th March

Time: 6.30-8.30pm UK TIME

Duration: 2 hours

We invite you to join us for our online pattern-cutting class all about SLEEVES. In 2 hours, this class will cover all the basics of sleeve design, drafting and construction so you can learn to create the sleeves of your dreams!

Drafting sleeves is a fun and creative introduction to pattern-cutting, and will give you all the skills to transform your favourite patterns into infinite new looks, just by changing the sleeves

We’ll start with a potted history of sleeve styles through the ages to get your creative sleeve juices flowing, before walking you through step-by-step how to create a variety of sleeve designs. The class will also cover the basic anatomy of the sleeve, the right measurements to take, advice on fabric choices and appropriate finishing and sewing techniques.

At the end of the class you will go away with at least x3 fully drafted sleeve patterns and designs and inspiration for many more! From billowing bells to the perfect caps and all the puffs, gathers, panels and pleats in between that you can think of!

The class will take place as a video meeting via Zoom so you can interact and ask questions along the way.  25% of the profits from this class will go to Akwaaba.

NEW! Due to popular demand we are trialling recording our classes this month - the recording will be sent out the day after the class and will be available to view for 30 days. However, we would strongly encourage that you attend the class in person if you can to get the most out the class.

What you will need

  • A simple sleeve pattern or sleeve block which you know fits you (if you don’t have one we recommend purchasing our Iceberg Dress pattern which comes with a great basic sleeve)
  • Some large pieces of paper – pattern cutting paper if you have it but otherwise newspaper will be fine (preferably a broadsheet). A roll of brown paper or even wrapping paper brown is also a good option. Otherwise just tape together whatever you can find!
  • A tape measure (we draft in metric , so you’re more used to inches, a dual tape-measure will be handy - or we can help you to convert along the way)
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Sticky tape
  • Paper scissors

If you want to up your pattern-cutting game even further check out our other online classes too!

How to download your Alice & Co Pattern

Alice & Co patterns are provided in three different page formats and are designed to be printed in colour.

Once you have purchased your pattern you will be given a download link. This will also be emailed to you so don't worry if you don't want to download it straight away!

The download will consist of a zip file containing 4 separate PDF files:

1x Pattern Instructions
3x Patterns in A0, A4 and US Letter sizes

*Please make sure you read the following instructions carefully before printing!*

For A4/US Letter: it is vital to make sure your pattern prints at full scale or the sizing will not be correct. Your print settings should be set to 'full scale', '100%', 'actual size' or equivalent according to your printer software.

There are two test squares on the first page of every pattern: a 5cm and a 2" square.

Print only this page first and check your square measures up, before printing the rest of the pattern.

For A0 copy shop: follow the instructions given by your chosen copy shop. Services are also available online - we recommend Patternsy - who print on lightweight tissue paper with very speedy delivery to anywhere in the world! Once you have purchased your pattern from us, simply click on the link above to go to their website and follow the steps to upload your pattern.
