Date: Saturday 4th November 2023

Time: 2pm-6pm UK TIME

Duration: 4 hours

Location: online via Zoom!

This 4-hour masterclass will give you all the knowledge and confidence you need to make your trouser-making journey stress-free.

Trousers can be very quick and easy to make, once you've got the hang of the fit and styles that really work for you. Just like a pair of trousers - there's two legs to this adventure: the block/sloper and the design. This class will cover both so you'll walk away full of trouser information and inspiration.

Rather than starting from scratch, we're providing you with THREE different trouser blocks/slopers, based on different hip-waist ratios. We'll help you to choose the best one to use as a starting point for fitting and designing your own trouser styles.

Take this class as a stand-alone session or as part 2 in our pattern drafting masterclass collection 'THE WINTER WARDROBE SERIES' - where we will teach you how to design and draft your own perfectly-fitting trousers, jumpsuits and jackets.

The class will cover fit, design, finishes and fabrics:

FIT
We know that fitting trousers can be the cause of endless frustration - from saggy crotches, twisted grain lines, weird wrinkles, the list seems to go on forever… In this class, instead of diagnosing fit ‘problems’, we will start with the anatomy of trousers, giving you the foundational knowledge you need to make fit adjustments with confidence.

DESIGN
Starting with brief look at fashion history for trouser design inspiration, we’ll show you how with just a few pattern-cutting techniques under your belt, you can to draft an infinite variety of styles. From skinny cigarette trousers via wide-legged palazzo pants to cute city shorts, the world will be your trouser-making oyster!

FINISHES
A key element in trouser-making is how you are going to get in and out of them! We will share our top tips for choosing the best fastenings for your design, fit and fabric - from the classic zip or button fly to the most elegant way to insert an elastic waistband.

FABRICS
The fabric you choose can change the cut and feel of a pair of trousers to a surprising degree - we’ll discuss how to choose appropriate fabric and lining methods for your desired design.

Please note this is primarily a pattern drafting class rather than a sewing class, however we will discuss and demonstrate a range of making up and finishing techniques.

HOW THE CLASS WORKS

The class will take place as a live video meeting via Zoom so you can interact and ask questions along the way.

Once you sign up you will receive a download which includes all the details of how to join our course platform where you can access the private class community and download everything you need for the class.

On the morning of the class you will receive a direct link to join via Zoom. Please note that you will need to be subscribed up to our newsletter in order to receive emails from us (there is a checkbox when you sign up for the class)

The class will be recorded and hosted in our own private online community (not facebook!), so you can go over it in your own time, and continue to ask questions after the live session. The recording will be available to you forever.

THE BLOCK/SLOPER
We won't be subjecting you to drafting a trouser block from scratch - way too much maths! Instead, we will provide you with x3 trouser block/sloper options, based on different hip-waist ratios to use as your starting point. The blocks will all be made available to you after the class - this is because we want you to have all the fit information we are going to teach you before you decide which to start using!

The trouser block is based on the Telestia system we always use for our patterns to ensure a good fit for most figures. The size range is UK 6 to 26.

The block will be downloadable as a pdf in paper sizes A4, US letter and A0.

This block will form the basis for the trouser styles we will draft in the class and will also be invaluable for future designs.

So what are you waiting for? Shake a leg and sign up!

POUR LE FORMAT A0 : suivez les instructions données par votre imprimeur. Des services sont également disponibles en ligne.
