DRAFT A COAT PATTERN WITH ALICE

Coat making is one of the most satisfying sewing projects - and not nearly as difficult as you might think! This one is inspired by a recent trip to Paris.

Saturday 21st January
10.30am - 3.00pm UK time
via Zoom

THE DESIGN
This coat is a semi fitted design with lots of options for personalisation. It fits neatly through the shoulders and chest and then has more or less fullness through the waist and hips according to your desires. We will be working from the bodice and sleeve block provided with the course and extending it to make any length from a hip grazing jacket to a floor sweeping maxi!

THE SILHOUETTE
  • triangular ‘A’ line,
  • rectangular and boxy
  • curvy and waisted
THE SLEEVES
A two piece sleeve with 3 sleeve/ armhole combinations:
  • classic
  • loose easy fit
  • pleated or puffed
THE DETAILS
  • a pointed or rounded collar
  • as many pockets as you desire
  • whatever else you wish to add!
THE INSIDES
We will draft facings and a lining.

This is primarily a pattern drafting class, however we will discuss and demonstrate a range of making up and finishing techniques.

HOW THE CLASS WORKS

The class will take place as a video meeting via Zoom so you can interact and ask questions along the way. Once you sign up for the class you will receive a download which includes all the details of how to join the class. On the morning of the class you will also receive a direct link to join the class. Please note that you will need to be subscribed up to our newsletter in order to receive emails from us (there is a checkbox when you sign up for the class)

The download also includes a block/sloper to print and prepare in advance of the class (more details below). Working from this block you will draft along with Alice in real time and have a pattern ready to use by the end of the class.

The class will be recorded so you can go over it in your own time.

THE BLOCK/SLOPER

The block/sloper for this class consists of a bodice and sleeve. It’s based on the Telestia system we always use for our patterns to ensure a good fit for most figures.

The size range is UK 6 to 26. The grade is 3 dimensional which means that the bust dart increases in size with the bust circumference.

The block is downloadable as a pdf in paper sizes A4 and US letter for home printing. You will also get an A0 file if you prefer to use a professional printer. We recommend Patternsy in the UK.

This block will form the basis for the coat styles we will draft in this class and will also be invaluable for future designs.

*Please note if you are already a member of our BEHIND THE SEAMS: ALL ACCESS course you will already have this block and should have received an email with a special discount!

How to download your Alice & Co Pattern

Alice & Co patterns are provided in three different page formats and are designed to be printed in colour.

Once you have purchased your pattern you will be given a download link. This will also be emailed to you so don't worry if you don't want to download it straight away!

The download will consist of a zip file containing 4 separate PDF files:

      1x Pattern Instructions
3x Patterns in A0, A4 and US Letter sizes

*Please make sure you read the following instructions carefully before printing!*

For A4/US Letter: it is vital to make sure your pattern prints at full scale or the sizing will not be correct. Your print settings should be set to 'full scale', '100%', 'actual size' or equivalent according to your printer software.

There are two test squares on the first page of every pattern: a 5cm and a 2" square.

Print only this page first and check your square measures up, before printing the rest of the pattern.

For A0 copy shop: follow the instructions given by your chosen copy shop. Services are also available online - we recommend Patternsy - who print on lightweight tissue paper with very speedy delivery to anywhere in the world! Once you have purchased your pattern from us, simply click on the link above to go to their website and follow the steps to upload your pattern.

Comment télécharger votre patron Alice & Co Pattern
