Keep cosy with this pattern bundle combining our Copenhagen Coat and Copenhagen Hat. Each pattern includes three paper sizes (A0, A4, US Letter) + full instructions.

COPENHAGEN COAT

The Copenhagen Coat is an un-lined, knee-length easy-fit coat perfect for Autumn/Spring. The coat is designed with roomy patch pockets, one statement button and a pinked edge. There is the option for either a classic collar or a hood. Great for a first coat project, or if you need a stylish new look for the weekend.

FIT
A generous fit, with room to wear over a sweater.

VARIATIONS
The pattern is designed to be knee-length but it would work just as well as a 3/4 length jacket, mid-calf coat or floor-sweeper!

LEVEL
A coat might seem like a big project but in fact coat-weight fabrics are surprisingly easy to work with and because there is a generous ease they are not difficult to fit. Have a go!

FABRIC
Choose a double-faced fabric that doesn't fray as you will see both sides. Examples are boiled wool, felt-type wools, Melton wool, Doeskin, bonded fabrics, faux-suede or leather (for the more experienced you could easily patch together some skins for the real deal).

FOR THE COLLAR VERSION:
You will need 2.4m/2 5/8 yards of fabric, at least 140cm/56" wide.

FOR THE HOOD VERSION:
You will need 2.7m/3 yards of fabric, at least 140cm/56" wide.

We used a Melton wool from AW Hainsworth - read more about it here

HABERDASHERY
x1 nice big button for the collar version, x3 buttons for the hood version.

OPTIONAL: 50cm/20" double-sided iron-on tape for the back vent, a coat hanging chain.

TOOLS

We like to cut this coat out using pinking shears (or a rotary cutter with a pinking blade) for a decorative raw edge. Alternatively you can just go for a straight raw edge, or a decorative stitch or binding.

SIZE RANGE
UK 6-22 (Please see our Size Chart page for more information.)

COPENHAGEN HAT

The Copenhagen Hat is a cosy classic, perfect for using up any scraps from making your Copenhagen Coat. The panelled design gives it a slightly ecclesiastical structure, reminiscent of church headwear and the domed rooftops of St Petersburg. The exposed seam option will emphasise the shape of the panels, whilst the enclosed seams will make for a more rounded look. The wide hem is turned double for design and extra cosiness.

FIT

Snug enough to keep you cosy!

VARIATIONS

The instructions give options for either enclosed or exposed seams and either a bobble or tie topper. Let your creativity flow by adding embroidery and embellishments as you wish.

LEVEL

Easy-peasy! You can sew this up in under half an hour once you know how!

FABRIC

Anything cosy! A soft wool with a bit of give is best – cashmere, boucle, boiled wool, felted wool are all good choices. You could also use a heavy- weight jersey or fleece, real or faux leather/suede/ sheepskin. The main thing to remember is that as the hem is turned up to the outside you will need to like both sides of the fabric!

This pattern is perfect for squeezing out of some scraps, but if you are buying fabric specifically then 40cm of fabric at least 90cm wide should suffice.
