Behind The Seams: A Pattern Cutter's Guide to Fashion History is BACK for one night only! In this special edition online class we will be collaborating with our good friend Tara Munro of Ooh La La VintageAlice and Tara once had a label together making clothes to order inspired by items from Tara's collection, made to fit modern sizes, in new or vintage fabrics. Lilia was often the model! Tara sources beautiful vintage pieces for the fashion, film and TV industries as well as for individual collectors. She has a great eye for finding interesting fashion items from times gone by,with many of her pieces sourced in Paris.
For the first half of the class we've picked out some star pieces from Tara's collection spanning the 1800s to the 1980s and will learn the fascinating stories they have to tell. Then we'll go behind the seams to unpick some of their pattern cutting and construction secrets through step-by-step drafting tutorials.
This is going to be a lot of dress up box style fun, learning lots of fashion history, pattern-drafting and sewing information along the way. We hope you will leave full of inspiration for your next handmade creation!

The class will cover:

    • The inside story of a vintage trader and collector
    • How to read the hidden stories of individual garments from the past
    • Step-by-step follow along pattern drafting tutorials inspired by pieces from Tara's collection
    • How to use vintage in your own sewing - wear, repair or recreate?
  • How to use vintage inspiration as part of a contemporary wardrobe
About Tara
Tara Munro @OohLaLaVintage is a self taught fashion archeologist. The motivation to search high and low is a never-ending story and increasingly challenging in a throwaway society. Tara has studied art, history and journalism and the desire to unearth interesting things has been with her since a child.  Add to the influence her fashion and communications background and a move to Paris in 2004 for the sake of love and the necessary elements and influences morphed into the company she has today.

What you will need

During the class you will follow along using mini-blocks which we will provide for you to download and print out in advance.

You will also need basic drafting supplies: paper, pencils, rubber, sticky tape, ruler and a tape measure.

How the class works

The class will take place as a live video meeting via Zoom so you can interact and ask questions along the way.

Once you sign up you will receive a download which includes all the details of how to join the class community and dowload the pdf mini-blocks. We will use these to follow along with the drafting during the live class.

On the morning of the class you will also receive a direct link to join via Zoom. Please note that you will need to be subscribed up to our newsletter in order to receive emails from us (there is a checkbox when you sign up for the class)

The class will be recorded and hosted in our own private online community (not Facebook!) so you can go over it in your own time, and continue to ask questions after the live session. The recording will be available to you forever.
